It was a muggy day in seireitei and Peishin found himself wishing for a cool breeze. He was waiting by a prepared Senkai-Mon for two volunteers to accompany him into the Human world to investigate a group of Humans known as the "Ghostbusters".
He'd tired of standing, and sat with his back against a wall, passing his ocarina from hand to hand. He'd considered playing, but he couldn't concentrate.
The so-called "Ghostbusters" were spiritually aware Humans who thought they were doing good, but in fact they were increasing the number of Hollows being created. They used some interesting equipment (which is why Peishin was going along - to "borrow" it). They were a small group, and he was to lead a three-man team and stop them before things got out of hand.
Peishin wiped sweat from his forehead.
What a day. It was way too hot for comfort. He didn't move to find shade though, he just put aside his discomfort and kept his eyes open for the volunteers.

The sky was purple, rippling like fire. No clouds, just an endless roof of roiling indigo flame.
The grass was yellow, sharp and defined. A thousand thousand stalks danced in the gentle wind. Odd flowers sprouted here and there from the ground, misshapen things with two heads and sharp thorns. Blue-and-white mushrooms towered above all like miniature fallout.
Sitting not far from him was something trying very hard not to be seen.
It was a low shape, sleek and deadly. It had pointed ears flattened against its bullet head. Its shoulderblades stood out from its back, powerful, corded muscle bunched in preparation for a single unforgiving leap. Two golden eyes burned through the grass, fixed unblinkingly on their target.
A dry, sensitive nose packed with sensory whiskers brushed against a stinging plant.
The cougar sneezed.
Peishin woke up. He was still sitting against the white-brick wall in Seireitei, still under the hot sun. He was still sweating, but a cool breeze had blown in from the west bringing the smell of new-grown flowers with it.
He looked around. It was irresponsible of him to have fallen asleep on (what was technically) duty. Luckily none of the volunteers had arrived yet. Either that, he thought sullenly, or there had been no volunteers at all.
Peishin wished he had a Hell Butterfly on him.
In the absence of orders from above he decided to give the volunteers another hour to show. If none appeared before then he would go into the Human world alone and do his best to deal with these "Ghostbusters". A ninth seat shouldn't have too much trouble handling a small group of weak Humans, after all.
And even if he did run into problems, he had his contacts in the Human world.
Quite cheered by the thought of visiting some old friends, Peishin rested his head back against the warm bricks and stared into the blue sky.

[Entering with Saito Daichi 10th Squad 10th Seat]
Saito had recieved word of a mission to the real world involving an interesting case of Spiritually aware Humans. He had requested to be temporarily relieved from his duties to undertake this mission. He was granted permission as he'd excelled in his duties so fully desrved the change of pace.
He walked up to the Senkai Gate where Louh was waiting. Bowed as customary when greeting a higher ranked officer for a mission and said.
"Saito Daichi, the 10th seat of 10th Squad reporting for the mission to the living world, Peishin-sama"
He raised from the bow and smiled a friendly smile to Louh.
[ooc: I think Shiva will be joining with a 12th Seat, so shouldn't be long now before we can get underway)

Peishin watched the young Shinigami bow and winced at his use of "-sama".
"Good to have you, Saito-san." He returned the smile and gestured at the floor. "I was beginning to worry that I'd be going alone, and I hate to travel alone. Pull up a seat," he chuckled. "We've still got a few moments before we go. Let's wait and see if anyone else turns up."
He laid his head back against warm bricks and closed his eyes.

Saito removed his Zanpakuto with Saya so he could join Louh on the ground, he placed the sheathed sword next to him.
"I do find it strange that this a volunteer mission, I'm used to just being handed orders from my superiors. Is there anything special about it, anything I should know?"
He said in a relaxed manner as he settled down to lean on the wall next to Louh, he wasn't used to this relaxed attitude but figured it was a nice change of pace. He'd become serious again as soon as the mission started proper.

"Ah," Peishin smiled, amused. "Hai, hai, there is something you should know. A few things. Our location, our objective, our targets... a few things to talk about, but we also have time. If we wait a little longer I won't have to explain everything twice."
He glanced at Saito and then at his zanpakuto and found a thought occurring to him.
"I hear you're something of a prodigy with that. What's its name?"

Saito looked down at his Zanpakuto.
"Oh, this is Hasami. I'm good at the art of sword fighting yeah, but I haven't really bonded with Hasami that well, I think it might just be a Melee-type but I can't help feeling there is more to him. I mean I don't even know the names of the attacks he's taught me!"

"No shame in that. I haven't learned a single attack from my zanpakuto."
He frowned suddenly and raised himself onto his knees, peering down the street. Shaking his head, he sat back down.
"Thought I saw someone coming, but it's nothing. Just some eleventh squad guys on their way to the training ground. Oh, hey, I'm being rude aren't I? I introduced myself and not my girl here."
Grinning, Peishin lifted his weapon, still inside its scabbard, and tapped Hasami near the tip.
"Hasami, meet Sabishi Kokoro. She's also a melee type, but she's a bit huffy so you'll have to be gentle with her." He ran his hand over her tsuka-maki and his grin softened. "She's a real woman, keeps a lot of secrets from me."
He glanced at Saito. "Is your Hasami much like you?"

Hotaru rushed down the pathway quickly as she could until the senkaimon gate was just within her vision. She scolded herself for being so late, but unfortunately she had only seen the flier for the mission an hour or so earlier that morning. She briefly remembered getting dressed, and slightly about equipping her zanpakuto as leaving the 5th squad base - but everything else was a bitter blur, as she had ran all the way. Except when she was stopped by jyuusanbantai-taicho for a little chat... and when Ayame-chan wanted to know where her captain had gone off to... and... well, that's why she ended up scolding herself. She bit her lip in thought, as she struggled to see anyone near the gate and wondered in horror if they had already left. She carried on advancing to the gate anyway, holding onto a fierce hope that she was wrong. The wind whipped her jet black hair, and after her wiped a few stray strands off her violently orange eyes, she finally noticed the pair of shinigami sitting against a white brick wall. She regained her composure, and delicately came close to the two higher seats... "Umm... Peishin-sama?" She quickly bowed her head and instantly felt stupid for sounding so timid. "I'm Niirohana Hotaru, gobantai twelfth seat. This is for the "Ghostbusters" assignment, correct?" She smiled warmly at her two companions. It was clear that if theywere stood besides her, she would struggle to even reach their chests in height. Though, after all, she was just a child in Soul Society.

Peishin caught sight of a small figure in black over Saito's shoulder. It had been running, but had skidded to a halt and walked the rest of the way. It was a she, he noticed, with doelike amber eyes and dark hair.
He watched her introduce herself, and winced when she, too, addressed him as "-sama".
Shaking his head, Peishin rose from sitting cross legged to standing up straight in one easy unfolding of the limbs. He turned to the newcomer, such a tiny little girl, and bowed slightly with his head and shoulders.
"Niirohana-san, nice to meet you. Yes, this is the assignment you're looking for. Allow me to introduce," he indicated his large companion, "Saito-san of Jyuubantai. As you know, I'm Peishin of Jyuunibantai."
His eyes flickered to the sky then back to her. He smiled apologetically.
"I'm sorry that I can't give you some time to catch your breath, but it's out of my hands. Here come our escorts."
Fluttering down from above, two Hell Butterflies landed on his outstretched hand.
"Nandeska? Two?" He sighed. "Ah, someone's messed up. Never mind! No time to wish things were different."
He handed one Hell Butterfly to Saito and one to Niirohana.
"You two go on ahead, I'll give you a few seconds headstart and then come after you."

"Is your Hasami much like you?" the 9th seat asked Saito.
"Well I though all Za..." Saito trailed off as he followed Louh's gaze and saw the 3rd member of the team approaching.
As the team leader made his introductions Saito stood, then while Louh was distracted by the arriving butterflies Saito turned to Niirohana.
"Niirohana-san, yes I've heard of you and your speedily passing through the academy. It took me much longer to reach Daijyuuseki but I look forward to working with you." He gave Niirohana a friendly smile. then looked to Louh as he issued them orders.
"Hai!" he said and bowed to Louh (kinda like the Japanese version of saying "Yes Sir" and saluting to a commanding officer) he then turned and followed his Hell Butterfly into the Senkaimon.

Hotaru felt herself instantly warming up to her new aquaintances, they seemed geniunely kindly in her childish yet accurate interpretation. She smiled innocently as Peishin-san went to regard the butterflies, and turned blissfully to Saito-san as he spoke to her.
Hotaru perched the Hell butterfly on her petite finger, singly exposed from under her extremely long kosode. She bowed gently down to Peishin-san as he instructed their next move.
"Hai!" Hotaru smiled enthusiatically, and rushed off to follow Saito-san to the Senkaimon Gate.
"Thank you for taking me along with you, Saito-san... I'm sure I must be a nuisance only being twelfth seat and all. But don't worry, I promise I'll do my best!" Hotaru let her smile wipe beautifully across her warm honey-toned skin. "I don't want Nakamura-taicho, or anyone else to be disappointed in me..." Hotaru looked ahead and took a deep breath before briefly stopping a few inches or so before the gate. This was the first time she'd ever been to the real world - she had skipped the real world training assignments in the academy when she graduated early. She had no idea what to expect... she had only read about the real world in outdated text after all.
"This'll be the first time I've ever left Soul Society... I don't know whether to be excited or scared." Hotaru looked up at Saito-san and smiled. Her Hell Butterfly started passing through, urging the little shinigami forwards.

Hotaru let her smile wipe beautifully across her warm honey-toned skin. "I don't want Nakamura-taicho, or anyone else to be disappointed in me..."
while walking through the Dangai Saito replied to Hotaru.
"No, you're a seated officer your help will be most appreciated. Don't sell yourself short, I doubt you'd be 12th seat of 5th Squad if Nakamura was disappointed with you."
He looked ahead, they had reached the real world, he stepped out and felt the cool night breeze on his face.
It was night but the moon was bright so there was plenty of light to see by, everywhere bathed in a blue glow. The Shingami had stepped out in what looked like some docks right next to a massive warehouse.
"We must stay alert. Peishin-sama hadn't explained all the details to me yet, but there is likely to be Hollow activity created by these "Ghostbusters" at work" Saito said quietly to his partner as he looked around and surveyed the area.

(OOC ~ i made up a portable gigai for this thread. It's not an official BH piece of kit, so it won't be used after this thread).
--------
Peishin appeared behind his two companions, gasping for breath.
"You know," he huffed, "I'm sure... they make that thing faster... every time I go through."
He took a few deep breaths to restore his composure, then sighed and blinked at his surroundings. The location was right, they'd come out in the docks close to their target destination, but...
"It's night? Ah, damn, that doesn't give us much time."
He chewed his lip, wondering what would be best to do. They could get started right away, but this promised to be a complicated mission. The stars were out above them, combined with the glow of the moon giving plenty of light to see by. Technically they could start searching...
"Alright." Peishin was about to put a hand on their shoulders, but considered their height difference and settled for slapping his palms together instead. "Saito-san, Niirohana-san, here's what we're going to do."
Riffling through his pockets, Peishin pulled out three thin white tubes. Each was four inches long and about as thick as his thumb, with a red button on one end. He handed one each to Saito and Niirohana and demonstrated his own to them.
"This is a portable gigai."
He held the tube against his palm with his thumb and spread his fingers so the others could see it more clearly, and pointed at the red button with his free hand.
"The activation button," he said. He ran his finger down the tube. "This is just buffer, it's a delicate bit of kit inside but this should protect it. Here we have the distribution point," he explained, tilting it to show a small hole in the bottom of the tube.
"This bit spirals out to a width of about eight inches and dispenses the gigai in its folded form. Once it's out the gigai will start unfolding, so be careful not to get your fingers caught or it will hurt."
Holding it at arm's length, he pressed the red button.
The opposite end of the tube began to iris out, clicking rhythmically, and then funnelled out like a bizzare skirt to the promised width of eight inches.
Then, with a loud, almost comical POP, an object shot out.
It was a little square of white material. It began clicking madly as if unfolded into the rough shape of a man. It had arms but no hands or fingers, legs but no feet, and a head but no face. Instead thick black lines - conduits for the spiritual energy of the user - ran down every limb, so completely covering the face that it was nearly all black. It stopped clicking once it was completely transformed.
Peishin picked it up and slapped it on the back affectionately.
"There we go. One gigai." He beamed at them. "Now, to put it on."
He stood the gigai on its own and walked behind it. Then, still smiling widely, he walked into it. Rather than knocking it over, he disappeared.
The blank features of the artificial body quickly fleshed out, and under fifteen seconds Peishin stood there in its place, with a corporeal body. He blinked a few times and stuck his tongue out as if he'd tasted something bad.
"Right! Now you guys do it."
