OOC: This is a private RP for me and Louh, as we are often online at the same time and thought we could bash out a fun RP with just the 2 of us, so when we are both online we can just post away without worrying about leaving anyone behind. We may allow others to join in later threads but for now it's just me and Louh.

We're going to take a look back now. Back to a time when a certain 5th Squad Captain was 150 years younger, back with the first Lieutenant she'd hand trained herself, now we are going to Turn Back the Pendulum.
Nakamura was sitting at her desk she'd worked through the night filling in papers for the newly approved Kido Spell. Really speaking it was a job for the Kidocho or the Fukukidocho but as she used to hold the latter position and this was for her spell she'd decided to help them out. But she had forgotten just how much paperwork was involved in putting a new spell in the official list, she was sure they'd added a few extra forms since she last had to do it!
Nakamura leaned back in her chair stretching.
"Ahhhhh woo! Finally finished."
She looked around her office, it was neat and tidy as always and the sun was shining in from behind her casting a shadow of the window frame on the door.
"Kuso, I've been up all night!"
She was about to clear everything away when she felt a familiar reiatsu approching her office...

Takara stepped inside her captain's office, not bothering to knock.
Nakamura was, as predicted, still at her desk.
"I told you, you should have left that stuff to the fukukidocho."
Takara crossed the room and unceremoniously placed a wide tray on top of the paperwork her captain was trying to tidy. She walked past the desk and opened the window, allowing some cool, fresh air to breeze in, and let out a contented sigh.
"It's a beautiful morning, Ai-chan."

Nakamura smiles up at her Lieutenant as she puts the tray down.
"I know, I know. But they have plenty of work to be doing as it is, it's my spell and my old jobs so I figured I'd give them a hand. It's not like they haven't helped 5th Squad out many times before."
she watched as Takara walked over the room.
she looked out the window, squinting slightly in the direct sunlight. Her eyes were tired from working through the night.
"That it is, Nana-chan, that it is."
She opened one of the draws in her desk and pulled out one of the pills the 4th Squad Captain had given her. She always keeps a stash in her desk for when she worked through the night like this and had to face the next day with energy.
"So, whats on the cards for today? Don't we have some kind of ceremony to attend?" she asked Takara before taking the pill then sitting back down to eat her breakfast.

She said nothing as her captain took the 4th squad pill, though she wanted to.
Get some real rest, she wanted to say. You're a captain, let me deal with things while you go to bed. Pointless to speak up, however. Nakamura was a devoted and driven individual. She folded her arms and snorted.
"If you can call it a ceremony. The twelfth squad captain is putting on a dinner party for all captains and vice-captains to celebrate the latest breakthrough in their research. It starts at eight and I've RSVP'd for us already, so all you need to worry about is not falling asleep during the old fart's speech."
She paused, probing the inside of her cheek with her tongue as she mentally tallied the day's events.
"Akita has a fresh batch of recruits coming in this morning, and we should probably visit that idiot Fuchida in the infirmary at some point, but apart from that the day's ours. Unless you've found some work for us."

Nakamura raised an eyebrow at her Lieutenant insulting the 12th squad Captain. Though she silently ate her meal while Takara gave her the rest of the days activities.
"Ahh, that Fuchida. While others say he's a lost cause I'm determined to help him with his kido. Though it is getting hard if he keeps blowing himself up like that. it wasn't even a destructive spell last time!"
she rubbed her chin while she thought of the poor unseated officer she'd taken into 5th Squad because no one else would have him. Mainly because his ineptitude with Kido was dangerous.
"Ah yes, the new recruits are in today, I forgot that Well we can see them first then and give them a good welcome to 5th Squad. then onto 12th Squad. Speaking of which, I do hope you don't talk to Jyuuniibantai Taicho like that, he's still your superior even if he is a little off kilter."
Nakamura finished her breakfast and stood up, ready to greet the newbies.

Lost cause, indeed. I wonder how it's even possible to turn a binding spell into an explosion. Her frown of contempt softened a little. He does try his best, though. Maybe one day...
She listened to her captain's comments and decisions - about Fuchida and about welcoming the new recruits - and flushed at Nakamura's telling-off.
"A little off kilter? If he was a firework he'd shoot sideways," she said, rather childishly, but bowed to her captain. "Gomen nasai, taicho. Of course I'll behave. I just feel I can speak my mind with you, and you know how twelfth squad makes me feel."
Takara straightened, running her hands through her long, honey-blonde hair.
"I'll get someone to clear that up," she said, nodding to the empty breakfast tray. "Should I go ahead and have Akita assemble the new guys for you, Ai-chan? Or would you rather take them by surprise?"

Nakamura paused for a moment while she contemplated.
"Have them form up for Kido practice, I want to see how good they are, after their attempts then I'll make my appearance."
she began walking to the door of her office and looked over her sholder at Takara smiling playfully "... and I might give them a demonstration of my own."
Nakamura opened the Door and stepped out calling to her Lieutenant
"Have them ready at the Training ground for 7, I'll meet you there and watch from behind Kyakko.*" the door then closed behind her and Takara was left in the room alone.
-------------------------------------------- OOC
* for those who don't know Kyakko is way of binding number 26 and it hides the target from sight, presumably by bending light. I got it off a kido list it hasn't been shown in the anime yet. I assume it's the spell Aizen uses in TBTP that Shinji rips down.

Takara blinked at the door that had been closed in her face, and her surprise melted into a smile. Nakamura... Ai-chan... had said "I might" and that meant she would. Nakamura was a woman who led by example and Takara loved her for her honesty.
She held out her right arm and a black butterfly landed on her outstretched fingers. Delicately, slowly, Takara folded her arm and brought the Hell Butterfly to within an inch of her lips.
"Akita Shunsui, of fifth squad, assemble the new recruits."
Before she let it go she held it... such a slight thing. Such a light thing. A Hell Butterfly weighed next to nothing and was more valuable than the silk that had been a trade secret during her Human lifetime. It was a beautiful, black and pale-purple animal that could have been made from the exhaled breath of a cold morning.
Knowing that Akita would have the recruits ready by the time of her arrival, and that she would be in fifth squad's training courtyard at least ten minutes before Nakamura-taicho, Takara set off at a leisurely pace.
As predicted, she arrived before Ai-chan and Akita had the six new members, fresh from the academy, lined up in parade-ground style.
"Alright, new guys. I want you to look at my badge," she turned her left arm towards them, displaying her vice-captain crest. "And do what I say."
"Hado One!" Takara yelled.
Takara called, "Bakudo Four!"
"Hado Five!" she yelled.
She screamed, "Bakudo Seven!"
The long-limbed Shinigami vice-captain watched the new members of fifth squad chant and perform the demon magic with the confidence and ease of long practise and familiarity. She didn't smile, she kept a straight, no-nonsense face throughout the demonstration, but she was pleased with the display.
Ai-chan will approve, she thought.

Nakamura wasn't far from the training grounds, withholding her spiritual pressure to the extent she could be standing behind you and you wouldn't know she was there.
She didn't want the new members to be intimated by the presence of their new Captain. She silently activated Bakudo 23 and dissappeared from view.
she made her way to the training area and awaited the arrival of her Lieutenant.
"Ah as I thought, she arrived 10 minutes early." Nakamura thought to herself as she followed Takara through the door.
she inwardly sighed at Takara's harsh attitude.
"I didn't want them to be intimidated, oh well..."
Nakamura nodded at the skill of the new recruits, and decided it was time to make her appearance. she removed the spell and slowly faded into view. Also slightly removing the restriction of her spiritual pressure so her new recruits could feel her presence, but without making any of them feel uncomfortable. she stepped forward, her Haori blowing slightly in the morning wind.
"Well done, despite my fukutaicho's over intimidating greeting." Nakamura said in friendly tones with a playful look towards Takara at the end of the sentence. She then continued in her signature friendly tones that made everyone feel at ease. " Welcome to 5th Squad. You were likely assigned to this squad because you have shown great potential with Kido and I have to say I'm not disappointed. If you train that skill while remembering not to neglect the others, you will go far in this Squad, possibly even ascending to fukutaicho when Takara-san moves on."
Nakamura then turned to Takara.
"Perhaps you should show them some of the potiential skill they could achieve Takara." She said to her Lieutenant.

"Me? Move on?"
For a moment Takara flushed crimson-red in her cheeks, and her eyes showed a deep hurt, but she recovered her surface calm after a brief moment of weakness. After all, I'll never leave Ai-chan's side, Takara thought smugly.
"Recruits! You should show respect when a taicho approaches!"
She felt icicles grow up her spine when Nakamura chided her, and suggested she show some of the potential that was expected of the new guys. The heat of her pride swiftly melted the cold of her telling-off.
"At once, Nakamura-taicho!" she yelled.
Her voice dropped with her breathing, both were suddenly the barest whisper above the low breeze. Takara's body was as still as a statue, her eyes closed, wisps of hair trailing from her head like rays of sunshine lost.
"The scattered bones of beasts," she breathed. "Steeple, crimson crystal, steel wheels," she sighed. "Wind if moving, sky if stopped, the sound of flying arrows fills the empty castle. Hado sixty-three, Raikoho!"
All the while she'd been chanting, a savage glow had been building scant centimetres from her left palm. Takara's spiritual pressure had been climbing steadily, like a hill one doesn't realise is so steep until one begins to ascend it. As she completed the incantation, breathless and voice glottal with emotion, she thrust her open palm to the sky and released the mighty spell to the heavens.
A cone of gold-yellow destruction spiralled out from her hand, searing the sky like the sudden spill of the dregs of a solar eclipse, and faded. Takara lowered her arm and let out a long, deep breath, then raised her head to the recruits.
She grinned.

The newbies were in awe of Takara's display muttering in amazement.
"However." Nakamura said calmly over the sound of the new recruits who quickly silenced. "For those of you who believe that they are that one in a generation that attains the level of Taicho let me show you why I am the Captain of the Kido Specialists!"
By this point Nakamura had a wide grin on her face as she raised her right hand, palm facing the training dummies.
"Way of destruction 31: Shakkaho!"
The ball burst out of her hand but the way it was heading was just to the right of the last Dummy, missing it.
However Nakamura's hand changed to a closed fist with her index and middle finger raised so that her thumb was facing her left. Then with one swift motion she moves her hand so her fingers are pointing left and her palm is facing up. When she did this the Kido instantly changed direction and went along all of the dummies lined up destroying them all. Throughout this whole time the students could barely feel any difference to Nakamura's spiritual pressure, that was NOTHING to her, despite changing the trajectory of an active kido being a VERY difficult task for your average Kido user.
Nakamura returned her hands to her sides and looked over her Squad members, standing silently in awe, frozen unable to speak.
"Now I want you to be dedicated in you Kido training and I hope you enjoy your time in 5th Squad." She turned from the group and headed toward the door and simply said. "Fukutaicho." which Takara would know is her keeping a formal air around the new recruits and simply requesting that she escort her to their next task for the day.

Nakamura's display put her own to shame, but she said nothing, didn't even react as her captain manipulated her kido in such a skillful way. Takara hadn't honestly expected her superior to show such a talent in front of the new guys, but she hid her surprise well.
"Fukutaicho," Nakamura called her.
She fell in-step at her captain's shoulder without a word. I guess it's off to the twelfth squad dinner now, or are we going to see Fuchida first? Oh, please, let me be struck by lightning no matter where we're going.
A boring old freak on one hand, a useless time-bomb on the other. Should I just do seppuku now?
"Nakamura-taicho," Takara said, speaking respectfully in case they were in earshot of a recruit. "I think you did a better job of putting them in their place than I ever could have. Are we going to the twelfth squad party now?"

"Yes. I understand you do what you do to earn their respect. I can't have you showing me up, then they'll never respect me. However I show them I'm capable but talk to them with a soothing tongue that way they all respect me, rather than those easily intimidated only showing respect out of fear. Different paths same goals, varying results."
as the pair head through the squad area toward the exit many lower officer politely move out of their way.
"Koniichiwa Taicho, Fukutaicho"
"Taicho, Fukutaicho"
"Nakamura-taicho, Takara-fukutaicho"
They heard it a lot on-route Nakamura says to Takara.
"Maybe I should organise another Party, sometimes all this formality feels so stiff."
She was of course referring to the legendary 5th Squad Sake Parties, she threw the first one 30 years or so ago, but at this point in time they just happened when she felt like rather than on a regular basis.
As they left their Squad Area behind Nakamura headed toward 4th Squad. Saying to Takara.
"I think we have time to visit Fuchida before the Ceremony."

She nodded along with her captain's words, and continued nodding as they recieved good-morning after good-morning. Takara nodded pretty much all the way into the fourth squad infirmary, still a step behind her superior.
We're going to see Fuchida after all, she thought, a little warmer inside all of a sudden.
"Fuchida's a waste of your time, Ai-chan," Takara whispered. "I don't know why you put so much effort into him. It's not like you're looking for another vice-captain. Not that he could ever get to that level."
She smiled behind Nakamura's back, confident that, despite their decades spent working together, her taicho was unaware of her soft spot for the hapless, unseated Fuchida.
"Besides," she continued. "We should try and get to the twelfth squad dinner early, or eleventh squad will take all the good seats again."

"Now now, I don't just take interest in people just because I want subordinates." Nakamura responded to her Lieutenants harsh remarks. "No, he has potential it just needs nurturing. As for 11th Squad, it isn't their kind of party, not like the ones we throw, so I doubt they'll get there much earlier than us."
She walked through the ward to Fuchida's bed.
"How are you today, Fuchida-san?"
She said to the man in the bed...
OOC: I'll let you control Fuchida.
